The team work includes R&D of technology standards, active participation in international organizations' 5G standard specification and cooperation in international 5G R&D, said MOEA
Specifically for 5G development, MOEA in early February 2015 formed Taiwan Association of Information and Communication Standards (TAICS), with initial members including Asustek Computer, Acer, MediaTek, Foxconn Electronics, Chunghwa Telecom, Trend Micro, Tatung as well as networking/communication device makers Arcadyan Technology, Gemtek Technology and D-Link, MOEA said.
With 5G Working Group under TAICS having been in close international cooperation to promote 5G development, TAICS aims to integrate industries' resources to set up Taiwan's international 5G intellectual properties, TAICS president and Asustek vice chairman Jonathan Tseng said.
MOEA has set 5G development goals for 2020: Taiwan will become one of the two largest supplying countries for 5G smartphone-related communication chips, with MediaTek to develop smartphone-use ICs and ITRI Small Cell-use chips; Taiwan will become the largest supplying country for various 5G terminal devices; Taiwan-developed 5G standard essential patents will take up 4% of all around the world and the global share for Small Cell standard essential patents will be 50%.
