Lite-On Group will set up its first overseas biomedical R&D center in Singapore. As a leading company in the opto-electronic components industry, this is the next step in Lite-On's expansion plans.
Based in Taiwan, Lite-On has been serving customers in the communication, computer, consumer electronics, LED lighting, cloud computing and automotive industries, and expanded its business scope to medical devices by developing innovative in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) products under the brand skyla.
The new R&D center aims to leverage Singapore's clinical strengths and talented medical research professionals, and Lite-On¡¯s extensive expertise in system design and manufacturing innovative point-of-care medical devices to fulfill unmet market needs in emergency care, telemedicine and decentralized healthcare service. In addition, the biomedical R&D center plans to hire 40 highly-skilled staff in 2016.
With this new launch of the R&D centre, Lite-On wants to provide its innovative product designs and manufacturing ability to the Singapore healthcare industry, to help it gain a highly competitive advantage with their range of technical entry barrier products.
"We know that the Singapore government is committed to invest in the development of biomedical industry. Besides this strong support, the country¡¯s economic stability, the well-known protection of intellectual property assets and high-quality manpower, all of these attracted us to set up our first overseas biomedical R&D center here,' said Danny Liao, Group New Business CEO, Lite-On Group.
