IC substrate, PCB makers seeing shipments pick up

Taiwan's major IC substrate and PCB manufacturers have all ramped up their shipments for new mobile devices set to roll out in the second half of 2015, according to industry sources.

Suppliers for Android devices including PCB manufacturers Compeq Manufacturing and Unitech Printed Circuit Board, flexible PCB (FPCB) maker Ichia Technologies and IC substrate specialist Kinsus Interconnect Technology are expected to report brisk shipments for the June-August period, said the sources.

However, orders from Android device makers are likely to slow down after August, due to the availability of new iPhone models, the sources indicated.

Apple's suppliers such as Zhen Ding Technology and Flexium Interconnect are gearing up for mass production for a new iPhone series, the sources observed. Apple has reportedly sourced more high-end FPCBs from the two Taiwan-based suppliers, which are expected to see their gross margins and operating margins rise substantially in the second half of 2015, the sources said.

Also buoyed by orders from Apple, revenues at HDI board supplier Unimicron Technology will start to register sequential increases in July, the sources noted.
